As early as I can remember, I've heard music in my mind. I work to recreate what I’m given, and I’m grateful for every note.
I’ve never had formal training. That has its drawbacks, but not knowing the rules also makes it easy to bend or break them.
My childhood influences were mostly soul, blues, Southern gospel, classic country, and what you might call “golden oldies.” I’ve absorbed a bit of almost everything else since.
Almost nothing I create fits into an established genre. There’s this saying the Marines have about dealing with obstacles: “Improvise, Adapt, Overcome.” I like that. So, I created a new category for myself and like-minded musical artists:
INTERGALACTIC MUSIC
We'll all learn exactly what that means together, but a good start is to say that it’s an original approach that builds on the best of the past while aiming at the future. I frequently combine electronic sounds and production methods with sounds and styles of the past - an arp synth with congas and a banjo, for example. Structure is also a preferred playground.
In a nutshell, if Intergalactic Music has a motto, it’s this:
“If it sounds good, do it.”
I’m tremendously thankful to the greats of history for what they’ve handed down. Their genius fuels our opportunity to create art that’s bold, unpredictable, novel, and touching. I hope to play a role in that and do my heroes proud.
